First 5km handicap race of the summer in the park and time to see whether a good winter of training has made a difference. Answer.....YES. Every single person set a new best for the park.
Notable runs - a very swift 20:40 from young Finlay and a 17:36 from Sam. Andy E and Gabi have both improved by over a minute since last summer.
Next week, something a bit different - a multi brick with transition practice. Bring a bike. We'll try to use smooth tarmac in the park, but you can use a mountain bike if you prefer.
As usual we are organising 7 events this year and we need marshals. The first three are on 13 May at Grain (5 marshals), 25 May East Peckham (3 marshals), 22 June (5 marshals). You will remember that a condition of taking part in these events is that you will marshal one (or more). 3 people have already come forward. Please could the rest of you let me know when you want to help? Please e-mail me at club firstname.lastname@example.org. Thanks.
There were 30 April fools tackling the tough G10/38 Sundridge course including 9 7oaks tri riders. Conditions were difficult with a stiff head wind on parts of the course. Martin Brown had a good start to the season with a 2nd best time for this course. Steve Searby's aspirations were deflated when he punctured on the way up Polehill. Sam Glover's hard training through the winter rewarded him with a PB. I think this was Darius' first TT so it must be a PB for him too!
The conditions were beautiful, catching some rays whilst running through some picturesque garden of England villages. There were some stunning performances from the 11 7oaks tri members who took part and particularly Vanessa Gilmartin who backed up her recent Surrey half marathan PB by smashing it again with an outstanding 1h34m! David Lobley also posted an excellent time for his first HM in eight years. Richard Evans also posted a PB and Gabi took 6 minutes off her Tunbridge Wells time!
2017 Inter Club Time Trial Series
The first event in the Inter Club Time Trial Series will be held on Saturday 1st April on the Sundridge Course starting at 9.00am. The details are in the club diary and in the “Upcoming Events” section on the Home page.
The last 5km on the track before we move back to the park for the summer. 11 PBs at 5km.
Georgie crossed the line first smashing her PB by over 1:30. George had the fastest run of the night in 18:05.
Excellent running by everyone. Thanks to coach Sam for organizing.
Next week, short intervals at the track 18:45.
There were about 15 or so 7oaks tri members including unofficial riders at the start of this year's KK. A damp start made some of the early descents a bit dicey but generally conditions were relatively mild. This did not make the course any less hilly though! I nearly got through a complete set of brake pads!
James Craddock put his superb climbing skills into practice, finishing in a Platinum time of 4h05m - the 15th fastest time out of the 539 riders navigating the long course. Vivian Brockwell was again the fastest F60 rider with an even quicker time than last year!
What a day! We had 12 runners out in perfect weather. This isn't a flat course. Fordcombe Hill always takes it's toll around the half way point. Paddock Wood should be better for PBs....and yet:
George, Georgie and Louise ran lifetime Half Marathon PBs. Andy and Val ran course PBs. And Sam ran 1:18 with a broken rib.
According to Strava: George and Georgie also PB'd at 10 miles, 15k and 20k. Georgie and Andy PB'd at 10k.
Thanks to coach Jane tonight.
With 4 runners tapering for Tunbridge Wells Half on Sunday, several away due to half term holidays/illness/work, numbers were down and we "only" had 4 PBs!
Newcomer Kelly crossed the line first with a strong time which is a new PB, certainly for our sessions. Sam Begg was next having paced Allan to a new best of 19:37. A full minute better than in January. Fastest run of the night was Adam, nibbling 4s off his PB down to 18:57.
Next week short intervals - 800s on the track with coach Sam.
The sixth race in the Kent Fitness League Cross Country series took place in Blean Woods, Rough Common on Sunday February 5th on a 5-mile course around the playing fields and footpaths of Blean Wood Country Park.
Running conditions were dryer than normal on the playing fields, but muddy and slippery on the twisting trails through the woods.
There were four 7oaks tri members taking part with James Baker putting in a stunning performance to come 37th overall - 3rd M50!
On Sunday 29th January it was the 5th round of the Kent cross-country Fitness League at Nurstead court in Meopham. Running conditions were good, except for the notorious water-splash, a 10 metre long pond that had ice floating on the surface. The competitors had to negotiate this twice on the two-lap course. Ouch!
Andrew Milne leading the pack!
It was cold. Really cold - hovering below zero. The track was slippery in places. Only a month ago, nearly everyone scored a Personal Best. There was no expectation of good times last night.
And yet......12 out of 14 registered new PBs. Awesome running by everyone. Really, really strong work.
Proving that even the best can go faster, Sam laced up his spikes and put in a blistering 16:14. Come the spring, we need to get him under 16, so we'll be looking for some speedy lads to run a relay against him.
Nine 7oaks tri club members were part of the record 30 strong Sevenoaks ac team at Minnis bay near Margate on Sunday. The weather was unusually mild with little wind for the muddy 6 mile course. Unfortunately the tide wasn't out quite far enough to start on the beach but quite a few runners enjoyed a stroll down the sand to wash off the mud in the sea after the race.
All of the dates for the 2017 Inter Club TT season are now in the club diary.
Please note some new rules which were agreed at the inter club meeting at the end of last season. Sorry they sound a bit formal. It's difficult to write rules in a fluffy way!
